Vinyl Cutter

Operating the Vinyl Cutter

  1. The vinyl cutter has a connected computer which you can login to using your GT username and password

  2. Adobe CC is installed on this PC and can be used to prepare your media for cutting

    1. There are plugins for CC and Cut Studio. They should be installed already but you'll need to look into how they work if you want to take advantage of that.

  3. Roland Cut Studio is the software used to bring media in and send it to the cutter.

  4. Vector images files are preferred. These are lossless and therefore don't become distorted when enlarged. Cut studio can however trace many .jpg or .png images.

  5. Before cutting you must prepared your material. You can have a sheet or place an entire roll on the roller. You want to set the feed rollers (on sliding rails above the cuthead) so that they a spread throughout the entire cut area. There are white/reflective lines indicating the possible locations you can place these 4 feed rollers so they line up with the rollers underneath.

  6. Then feed the material through the cuthead area and begin the pinching process by selecting if you're cutting a roll (doesn't measure the length of piece), a sheet, or an edge. Generally roll is the correct selection. The machine will then measure how far apart the furthest roller is a define your allowed cut width.

  7. Once the material is pinched. You should be able to feed it in/out and set the length origin point on the vinyl cutter.

  8. Once the material is setup, you can "print" from cutstudio and begin the cut. It is advisable to do a small test cut first to make sure pen pressure and settings are good.
